Ray was lucky enough to see the America's Cup trophy in person whilst he was on work experience at Garrard & Co back in 1995. Garrard & Co craftsman manufactured the cup back in 1848 and it is now the oldest international sporting trophy.
Since the below photo was taken the trophy has grown in size quite significantly with a whole new silver plinth being added to the bottom to allow enough room for more champions to have their name engraved on it.
The Cup was badly damaged in an attack in 1997 in New Zealand (click here for more information) and had to be shipped back to the UK for Garrard & Co to carry out the extensive restorations. It took the silversmiths 3 months and the Cup was then flown back to New Zealand in a first class seat of it's own!
Not many people have had the chance to see traditional hand engraving done. The below video is a short example of how Ray works - with a hand push graver, eyeglass and GRS vice. In this video he is engraving a script monogram onto a sterling silver ring. You can see how the letter 'G' is almost completed in just one single cut.

Ray recently had the great honour of being asked to engrave the Tasmanian Parliamentary Mace.
The Mace was donated to the Parliament in 1956 by the Davies family and was made by a local jeweller, Harlod F Sargison. The Mace is 1.35m in length and weighs 4.3kgs. It is made of sterling silver and 9ct yellow gold and includes many semi-precious Tasmanian gemstones.
The signature of each Speaker has been hand engraved upon the main staff since 1856.
If you follow London Engraver's Facebook and Instragram feeds you will have recently seen this Rolex Deepsea watch with it's nautical theme. This is Ray's latest commission and was designed in collaboration with the client who is a professional deepsea diver.

This morning we received a lovely email from another very happy client...
"After exhaustive years of research to decide on what I wanted to be engraved on our family signet ring it was critical to find the appropriate craftsman to achieve our wishes.
Rays very professional service and wealth of experience reassured me from the very first point of contact that I was going to achieve quality work and I certainly wasn’t disappointed at the final outcome.
Along with providing enlightening progressive photos of the engraving process I was also delighted to receive copies of the final waxed impression from his painstaking work confirming a very significant result. I still find it hard to comprehend how Ray got to do such exacting work underneath the ring band?
Our family places enormous value and gratitude on this excellent workmanship by Ray.
I would highly recommend Ray Hood - London Engraver for quality workmanship, value and services provided. And a nice bloke to top it off!"

If you're one for standing out from the crowd, not following the masses and like things to be just that little bit different then this is something for you....it's our new hexagonal signet ring!
As with all our signet rings, it is stamped from a solid sheet of metal and not cast, meaning there is no porosity and it's just crying out to be hand engraved! All rings are made to order.

It's not every day you get to hand engrave a Viking helmet!! This was brought to us by the Scandinavian Association of South Australian - it's awarded each year to their Viking of the Year, so Ray was engraving the name for 2016 - congratulations Linda!!
